About 大涌谷くろたまご館
Ōwakudani Kurotamago-kan is a visitor destination and souvenir brand in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, operated by Okuhakone Kanko Corporation. It introduces visitors to the volcanic landscape and attractions of Ōwakudani while offering its best-known specialty: kuro-tamago, or black eggs. Boiled in a hot-spring pool, the eggs develop dark shells as minerals from the water adhere to their porous surfaces. They are sold in four-piece packs, and local tradition says eating one brings seven additional years of life.
The Kurotama Shop also carries Ōwakudani-exclusive souvenirs, original products inspired by black eggs, and locally themed character merchandise, including collaborations featuring Gudetama and Sanrio characters. For refreshments, the Waku Waku Kitchen & Café serves drinks and casual items such as frankfurter dogs, curry bread, and fried chicken; a separate outlet near the nature trail entrance offers fast food. The website also shares information about Ōwakudani’s history, hot springs, scenery, nearby destinations, and the Nature Research Trail, where entry requires a reservation and guided access.
