About Owyhee Sportsmen
Owyhee Sportsmen is a locally focused initiative advocating for the conservation of Oregon’s Owyhee canyon country and the fish, wildlife, and outdoor traditions that define it. The group works to bring hunters, anglers, ranchers, tribes, wildlife managers, and other stakeholders into dialogue about the region’s future. It supports multiple uses of public lands, including sustainable ranching, wildlife habitat management, public access, and long-term resource conservation.
The Owyhee region spans parts of Oregon, Idaho, and Nevada, with rugged canyons, open prairie, and waterways that support native redband trout, bull trout, and other fish. Its wildlife includes California bighorn sheep, mule deer, elk, pronghorn, chukar, and greater sage grouse. These resources offer opportunities for fishing, hunting, rafting, canoeing, and kayaking.
Owyhee Sportsmen aims to safeguard the landscape’s character, solitude, and outdoor access for future generations. Through public information and calls to participate, it encourages people to lend their voices to a locally driven conservation discussion that recognizes both cultural values and working lands.
