About Oxfordshire Geology Trust
Oxfordshire Geology Trust is a volunteer-run, non-profit charitable organisation established in 2000 to protect the county’s geological heritage and landscape. Its work focuses on conserving important geological sites and helping people understand and appreciate Oxfordshire’s varied Earth heritage. The county’s rocks have provided building materials and other resources for centuries, while also preserving evidence of life, environments and climates over the past 200 million years. Many former quarry sites are now disused or overgrown and may need conservation.
The Trust surveys locally important sites and can designate them as Local Geology Sites, supporting their protection through the planning process. It has designated more than 50 sites across Oxfordshire. To raise public awareness, the organisation runs projects, events and activities, including opportunities to explore geology through guided walks. It also welcomes volunteers to help with site surveys, events and other activities; membership is free. Oxfordshire Geology Trust is affiliated with GeoConservationUK and The Geology Trusts, organisations that support collaboration and good practice in geoconservation.
