About ozarkhighlandstrail.com
The Ozark Highlands Trail Association (OHTA), established in 1981, is a dedicated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization composed entirely of volunteers. Its mission is to build, maintain, and promote the Ozark Highlands Trail (OHT), which will eventually extend 320 miles across northern Arkansas, linking Lake Fort Smith State Park to Lake Norfork and connecting to Missouri's Ozark Trail. OHTA has successfully constructed approximately 270 miles of trail and currently maintains about 240 miles, ensuring that outdoor enthusiasts have access to pristine natural landscapes.
The organization not only focuses on trail work but also promotes an active community with casual hikes and educational outings, welcoming beginners to learn low-impact camping and hiking practices. Members stay informed through monthly newsletters, trail alerts, and a variety of events, all of which are open to the public at no cost. From maps to accessories available in their online store, OHTA encourages involvement, ensuring that everyone can enjoy and preserve the beauty of the Ozarks
