OZ Pronatur

PRONATUR is a Slovak civil association established in 2007 to support nature conservation, environmental protection, sustainable regional development, and the inclusion of marginalized groups. It also promotes healthy lifestyles and active citizen participation. The organisation uses geospatial technologies and services to help advance these aims, bringing together environmental management, local communities, and practical innovation.

Its projects focus on strengthening the management of protected areas and connecting biodiversity conservation with local social and economic development. Work has included ecosystem services in Muránska planina National Park, a management model for the Poľana Biosphere Reserve, and the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Muránska planina. These initiatives have involved public bodies, educational institutions, conservation organisations, international partners, and local stakeholders.

PRONATUR also supports innovation and professional networking through DanubeHack, which organises hackathons, workshops, and community activities for people interested in geoinformatics. Through collaborative projects, knowledge-sharing, and the application of spatial technologies, the association contributes to sustainable approaches to nature protection and regional development.
