About Pakistan Chowk
Pakistan Chowk Community Centre | Karachi is a vibrant brand dedicated to promoting art, culture, and community engagement in the historic Old Town of Karachi. Located inside the Sultani Mahal heritage building, this two-room space serves as a hub for residents to come together and enjoy literature, arts, and cultural activities. The community centre offers a range of services and facilities to benefit the locals.
One room is a versatile space for art exhibitions, qawwalis (a form of devotional music), and small gatherings, while the second room serves as a dedicated workspace equipped with tables, chairs, WiFi, and research resources. Additionally, legal counselors are available free of cost to assist the community once a week. Although the physical space had to be temporarily closed due to the complications of COVID-19, the brand has adapted its programs to continue research, advocacy, and cultural initiatives through digital platforms.
Furthermore, the centre provides educational and training internship programs to further its mission. Pakistan Chowk Community Centre is striving to revitalize the arts and culture scene in Old Town, creating a vital link between the people, the built environment, and the local ecology.
