Palestar is an independent online worlds and game-development brand with a history dating back to 1995. Its work brings together persistent online gaming and the technology used to create and operate multiplayer worlds. Palestar’s featured game, DarkSpace, is a massively multiplayer online experience that combines tactical space combat with persistent strategic warfare. Players can explore the game through its online community and related network, which also lists a beta version.

Palestar also develops Medusa, a C++ massively multiplayer game engine used to build and run DarkSpace. The engine’s source code has been released for developers and the wider community, with licensing terms that distinguish commercial use from free or recreational game development. Palestar provides related resources through its website, including a developer wiki, forums, links, bug tracking, and development information. Some resources, such as the wiki, are intended for Palestar developers. Together, DarkSpace and Medusa reflect Palestar’s focus on both operating online game worlds and supporting the technology behind them.
