Palio di Trevignano

Palio di Trevignano is a community cultural and sporting event organized by AS Trevignano 2000 A.P.S. in Trevignano, in Italy’s Province of Treviso. Held annually since 1991, the Palio del Batar Panoce revives the tradition of removing kernels from corn cobs, a seasonal task once carried out by rural families to prepare maize for polenta. Inspired by local elders’ recollections, the event honors work that was essential to household survival and transforms its memory into a celebration for the wider community.

The competition brings together Trevignano’s historic neighborhoods and smaller local areas, each represented by a costumed team, or “fameja.” Teams include community representatives, a young standard-bearer, nine official competitors, reserve members and helpers, under the direction of a neighborhood leader. The program also features a historical parade, while the organization shares results, past editions and an official winners’ record. Through these activities, Palio di Trevignano preserves local heritage and creates an occasion for residents to celebrate their shared history.
