The Visegrád International Palace Games is one of Hungary’s largest and oldest historical festivals, bringing the fourteenth century to life in Visegrád each July. Held since 1985, the three-day event commemorates the 1335 Visegrád Royal Summit and celebrates the town’s medieval heritage. Its programme spans the Royal Palace, the Lower Castle and the Danube riverbank, creating an immersive experience for visitors of all ages.

The festival offers authentic knightly tournaments featuring Hungarian, Polish and Czech royal contests, alongside parades, mounted archery, falconry, historical music, dance and theatrical performances. Visitors can explore a medieval market, watch traditional crafts and cooking demonstrations, and join workshops and dance events. Families can enjoy a children’s playhouse, hands-on medieval games and interactive activities designed especially for young visitors. Festival services include food and drink, restrooms and craft stalls. With costumed performers, musicians, riders and reenactment groups from several countries, the Palace Games combines entertainment, education and living tradition across Visegrád’s historic sites.
