Pandit is an innovative digital humanities project dedicated to the creation of a comprehensive database focused on the rich tapestry of South Asian literature and scholarship. Named after the Sanskrit term for a learned scholar, Pandit aims to gather, curate, and disseminate reliable data regarding works, individuals, institutions, and manuscripts from premodern South Asia. The project addresses the challenge of making accessible a wealth of information that exists primarily in hard-to-reach formats, such as palm-leaf manuscripts and obscure publications.
The main mission of Pandit is to establish an easily navigable, searchable, and continually updated digital repository that serves as a central hub for scholars. This platform not only fosters collaboration but also enhances the understanding of the intricate connections among key figures in cultural production, such as authors, patrons, and scholars across diverse disciplines. Led by an international team of experts, Pandit aims to rekindle the virtuosity of traditional scholarship using modern digital tools, making it an invaluable resource for researchers and enthusiasts alike.
