About Paper Money Project
The Paper Money Project is an educational numismatic resource focused on census data for selected early U. S. small-size paper money varieties.
Conceived in 2022, it brings together serial-number records, historical research, and information to help collectors study distinctive notes and understand their place in U. S. currency history.
Its census covers 1928 and 1934 series notes in $1, $2, $5, $10, and $20 denominations, including Legal Tender notes, Silver Certificates, and Federal Reserve Notes. Featured varieties include Mules, Late-Finished Plates and Back Plates, unusual serial-number blocks, rare Star replacement notes, and notes associated with specific plate numbers. The project offers census listings, numismatic overviews and summaries, high-resolution images, related articles from the SPMC “Paper Money” journal, and historical serial-number printing and delivery documents.
Its records draw on auction archives, dealer listings, online sources, and inherited collector lists, and the site invites community members to contribute serial numbers and scans. The census is shared free of charge, supporting both experienced collectors and people beginning to explore paper money
