About Parkway Bakery and Tavern
Parkway Bakery and Tavern, located in New Orleans, has been an iconic brand since its opening in 1911. Founded by Charles Goering, Sr., a German baker, Parkway quickly gained a reputation for serving delicious and fresh bread, donuts, and their famous Seven Sisters sweet rolls. In 1929, the Martin brothers introduced their hearty poor boy sandwich, which became a staple at Parkway.
The bakery faced challenges over the years, including a flood in 1978 that led them to start buying bread from Leidenheimer Baking Company. However, in 1995, Jay Nix purchased Parkway to save the historic building and, after extensive renovations, reopened it in 2005. Today, Parkway continues to serve a variety of mouthwatering poor boys, including their renowned roast beef sandwich.
