Part W is an action group working to advance gender equity in the built environment. It challenges systems that disadvantage women and campaigns for gender mainstreaming, greater recognition of women’s contributions and fairer treatment in an industry where women are routinely excluded. The group gathers and crowdsources research and data to highlight inequality, then shares knowledge through talks, lectures, publications and workshops.
Part W’s campaigns combine research, public advocacy and practical resources. Built Barriers is creating a national visual archive of everyday design decisions that exclude or limit people. The Women’s Work: London map showcases projects designed, saved, built or commissioned by women, while The Alternative List addresses the lack of recognition for women’s achievements in architecture. Part W also publishes open letters and supports initiatives that draw attention to women’s safety and inclusion in cities.
Individuals and organisations can support its campaigning through the Supporters Circle. The group also invites public involvement, shares news and events, advertises jobs, and offers a monthly newsletter covering events, jobs and actions.
