About Pastoral Womens Council
The Pastoral Women's Council (PWC) is a membership organization focused on empowering women and girls in northern Tanzania. With a history of over 20 years, PWC has made significant progress in areas such as land rights, property ownership, and girls' education rates. PWC serves the Ngorongoro, Longido, and Monduli Districts, which encompass over 28,000 square kilometers and a population of over 456,000 people, predominantly Maasai pastoralists.
PWC works in approximately 90 villages across the three districts and has around 6,500 women members. They partner with local, national, and international organizations to achieve their goals. Guided by principles of solidarity, equality, trust, and transparency, PWC has achieved notable results, including a 77% increase in girls attending school, over 300 women securing land rights, and an 80% increase in women's incomes in select project villages.
PWC is led by an Executive Director and a management team, accountable to a board elected by the General Assembly. They hold themselves publicly accountable for outcomes and fund utilization, providing annual reports for transparency.
