The Patsy Takemoto Mink Education Foundation is dedicated to perpetuating the legacy of trailblazing Congresswoman Patsy Takemoto Mink, who made history as the first woman of color elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Serving from 1965 to 1977 and again from 1990 to 2002, Mink championed civil rights, women’s rights, economic justice, and peace, leaving an indelible mark on American politics. In recognition of her significant contributions, she was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
The foundation aims to honor Mink's commitment to education and advocacy by providing support and resources to deserving students. Through scholarship programs and educational initiatives, it empowers the next generation of leaders who carry forward her vision for equality and democracy. The foundation also promotes the importance of civic engagement, reflecting Mink's belief in standing for justice, even when it means being ahead of the majority.
