The company was founded by Ole Paustian, who transformed his father's shop into a furniture store with the help of his wife, Monika Paustian. The Paustians also ventured beyond furniture sales, organizing exhibitions and concerts of prominent artists and musicians. Notably, Paustian collaborated with legendary architect Jørn Utzon, who designed a spectacular showroom building called Utzon House in 1987. The airy, temple-like structure, with its tall white columns and geometric archways, became an iconic landmark.

In 2021, the Utzon House was relocated to Paustian V/Strøget in Copenhagen. In 2017, architect and entrepreneur Frantz Longhi joined Paustian as co-owner and CEO, bringing his expertise and passion for design. Paustian has since expanded its competence areas, offering retail, wholesale, contract services, and even their own furniture and design collection.
