Pawcahontas

Pawcahontas is an Austrian animal-welfare organisation run by four women committed to helping dogs in need. Its work focuses on rescuing stray, abandoned, abused and injured dogs across the Western Balkans, including puppies born on the streets and animals at risk in kill shelters. The group also seeks safe, protected care for older dogs.

Pawcahontas provides veterinary treatment and rehabilitation, including blood tests, deworming, vaccinations and other necessary care. Dogs in its care are microchipped, vaccinated, treated for fleas and given vaccination records; adult dogs are generally sterilised. The organisation also supports local spay and neuter programmes and works with established shelters and animal-welfare groups to arrange transparent adoptions into caring homes.

People can help by donating, becoming a member or sponsor, providing supplies, fostering a dog or taking part in the organisation’s work. Sponsorship options include support for food, accommodation, vaccinations and recovery preparations. Pawcahontas works with local communities to pursue lasting solutions and a future in which no dog is left behind.
