About PAWS
PAWS (Paros Animal Welfare Society) is a legally registered, nonprofit association dedicated to improving the health and welfare of stray cats and dogs on the Greek island of Paros. Founded in 1995, it works with local veterinarians, police, the municipality, adoption specialists and other community partners. Its mission combines rescuing abandoned animals, providing medical care and finding permanent homes with reducing the stray population through neutering.
At its Marathi shelter, PAWS cares for rescued dogs and puppies, as well as sick or injured cats and kittens within its capacity. Animals passing through the shelter receive veterinary treatment, vaccinations, neutering and microchipping. The organization also supports cat colonies across the island through feeding and neutering, and offers dogs and cats for adoption in Paros and abroad. PAWS reports rehoming more than 100 animals each year and has helped rehome over 1,200 in the past decade. In addition, it promotes responsible animal care through education sessions for local children and invites public involvement through volunteering, donations and sponsorship of stray animals.
