About PAWSitive Connections Lab
The PAWSitive Connections Lab, established in 2016 at the University of Saskatchewan, is a dynamic interdisciplinary initiative led by Dr. Colleen Dell and further directed by Dr. Darlene Chalmers and Dr. Linzi Williamson. With a focus on the transformative bond between humans and animals, the lab emphasizes the role of pets, therapy dogs, and service animals in supporting recovery from addiction and enhancing mental well-being.
Offering a range of services and community programming, the lab conducts research aimed at advancing the understanding of human-animal interactions. Key initiatives include the PAWSitive Support Canine Assisted Learning Program, designed to support individuals in addiction recovery, and the PAWS Your Stress Therapy Dog Program, which provides comfort to students on campus. Additionally, the lab offers online courses and resources for service providers, focusing on the therapeutic benefits of animals in substance use recovery.
Through collaborative efforts with community members and various organizations, the PAWSitive Connections Lab fosters healthier relationships between individuals and their pets, showcasing the profound impact of these connections on mental health and recovery.
