Pawsitive Teams

Pawsitive Teams is a volunteer-inspired nonprofit founded in 1997 to improve the lives of people with special needs in San Diego County through highly trained dogs. Its programs serve individuals with disabilities and partner with professionals and community organizations to support client-related goals.

The Service Dog Program matches fully trained dogs with people who have mobility-limiting disabilities. These dogs can help with everyday tasks, such as retrieving dropped items and opening difficult doors, and provide assistance in emergencies. Pawsitive Teams also places Facility Dogs with professionals who work with clients in settings such as schools and other workplaces. Like service dogs, facility dogs receive two years of intensive training and are prepared to adapt to varied work environments.

The Therapy Dog Program brings certified volunteer dog teams to select local facilities, where trained staff use animal-assisted activities to help children and adults work toward defined goals. The organization also offers Therapy Dog Prep School and related programs, along with volunteer opportunities, applications, and educational resources.
