The Pollock Conservation Cooperative Research Center (PCCRC) is a dedicated organization established in 2000 to enhance the understanding and management of Alaska's marine resources, particularly focusing on the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands' commercial fisheries. Born from a collaboration between the At-Sea Processors Association and the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, the PCCRC champions sustainable fishing practices through research and education.
PCCRC funds a variety of research projects encompassing pollock, salmon, and other groundfish species, as well as the ecosystems that support them. This includes studies on habitat, marine mammals, and fisheries management—all aimed at fostering a sustainable approach to resources. The center also supports graduate-level research through student fellowships and assistantships, empowering the next generation of marine managers. Additionally, the PCCRC plays a critical role in advocating conservation and advancing marine policy, ensuring the ongoing sustainability of Alaska's vital marine ecosystems.
