About PDB
The Worldwide Protein Data Bank (wwPDB) is an international organization that manages the Protein Data Bank (PDB), the global archive of three-dimensional structural information about proteins, nucleic acids, and complex biological assemblies. Its purpose is to preserve this data as an enduring public resource and support research and education across the sciences. The wwPDB provides expert deposition, validation, biocuration, and remediation services to data depositors worldwide at no charge, and makes public archive data freely accessible without usage restrictions. It also develops community-endorsed standards and maintains data dictionaries and documentation for structural biology.
Through its member organizations, the wwPDB offers search and browsing tools, programmatic APIs, structure visualization, validation reports, and training resources. Its broader network includes specialized resources for electron microscopy, biological magnetic resonance, computational models, and raw diffraction data. Researchers can deposit structures, explore archive entries, access statistics and downloads, and consult policies, tutorials, workshops, and publications. Together, these services help make structural biology data more consistent, discoverable, and useful to the global scientific community.
