Professional Education Foundation

Professional Education Foundation (PEF) is a scholarship charity that helps talented students in Pakistan pursue professional and university education when their families cannot afford the costs. Established in Karachi in 2009 and supported by chapters including PEF UK, the foundation works with partner universities across the country. It reports supporting more than 3,700 students each year through 41 partner institutions.

PEF provides tuition assistance for degree programs in fields such as engineering, computer science and medicine. Students are selected through a process that considers academic merit, verified household finances and professional potential. Donations are allocated directly to universities as tuition credits rather than paid to students, and continued support depends on annual monitoring of academic progress. Orphaned students receive priority, and a dedicated adviser reviews Zakat eligibility.

PEF UK is a registered charity founded by members of the British Pakistani community. The organization says its trustees and their families cover administrative costs, directing donations toward student tuition.
