About PEF
Potential Enhancement Foundation (PEF) is a non-governmental organization registered in Tanzania that has provided technology-focused education support to rural schools since 2006. Its mission is to use technology to enhance education and encourage student development while respecting local cultural values. PEF works primarily with public and community secondary schools, where limited access to computers, internet connectivity, and reliable electricity can restrict learning opportunities.
The foundation designs and implements solar-powered computer laboratories, equipping schools with computers, internet access, solar energy systems, and training for teachers and students. Its programs include the Karatu District Program, SPARC and SPARC+, which provide or expand solar-powered computer labs, including Raspberry Pi devices and digital learning resources. The Pioneer Program offers a more compact teaching tool: a single Raspberry Pi computer preloaded with educational content.
PEF reports more than 50 school projects and over 30,000 students and teachers reached. Its work aims to improve digital literacy, access to educational information, and technology use in teaching and learning across Tanzania.
