About Pembe Hayat KuirFest
Pembe Hayat KuirFest, Turkey's first queer festival, began in Ankara in 2011 and has since visited several cities, including Istanbul, Mersin, Denizli, and Çanakkale. Organized by the Pink Life Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestite, and Transsexual (LGBTT) Solidarity Association, the festival aims to draw attention to discrimination and violence against LGBTI individuals while creating opportunities for discussing and debating queer theory and art in Turkey. The festival features film screenings, a film platform, and a festival catalog.
Highlights include "Hepimiz İçin 9/8'lik Bir Dövüş," a documentary film directed by Gizem Aksu, and the showcasing of intersex-themed short films in Ankara. Additionally, collaborations with organizations such as Screen Practices and Nassawiyat have brought queer and trans voices to the forefront. Pembe Hayat KuirFest continues its mission to create a space for dialogue, awareness, and celebration of the queer community in Turkey
