About PenArt
PenArt is a nonprofit visual arts center in Door County, Wisconsin, dedicated to making creativity welcoming and accessible to people of all ages and experience levels. Founded in 1965 as Peninsula School of Art by filmmaker and artist Madeline Tripp Tourtelot, the organization has grown from a place for creative exploration into a community where artists and learners can make, share, and develop their skills. Its current name reflects an open, playful approach grounded in curiosity, connection, and the belief that art is for everyone.
PenArt offers adult workshops and classes, youth and teen programs, family art days, scholarships, artist talks, critique groups, and community studio opportunities, including figure drawing and clay studio access. Visiting artists and educators lead classes across a range of media and skill levels. The Guenzel Gallery presents rotating exhibitions, with free admission and public opening receptions. PenArt also supports visual artists through residencies that provide studio space, equipment access, housing, and opportunities to connect with the public.
