Pencak Silat Nederland is an initiative of several Pencak Silat schools, created in collaboration with the Dutch Pencak Silat Federation to promote the sport across the Netherlands. Its website introduces this diverse Southeast Asian martial art and helps visitors find a school where they can practise. Pencak Silat encompasses styles originating in countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, with traditions closely connected to their places of origin.
The site presents both competitive and traditional practice. Competition includes Tanding, a sparring discipline popular in the Netherlands, as well as Tunggal, Ganda, Regu and Solo Creative, which involve performing sequences of techniques. Visitors can also learn about the art’s cultural, artistic and mental-spiritual dimensions, alongside its self-defence principles.
Pencak Silat schools offer opportunities for children and young people to develop self-defence skills, discipline and resilience, while learning about culture and philosophy and building fitness, strength and confidence. The site reports around 90 locations and 60 styles in the Netherlands, where the art has been practised since the 1950s.
