The Harvard Historical Aviation Society is a charitable, nonprofit organization based in Central Alberta, dedicated to preserving and sharing the region’s aviation and military heritage. Formed in 2007, the Society grew from the efforts of two local history enthusiasts and now stewards a 10-acre site on the former Penhold Military Base. Its collections include artefacts documenting the base, the Red Deer Airport, and the people who served in the area, from the Second World War era of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan to the present.
The Society offers interactive and educational programming that commemorates the history of Penhold and Bowden military bases and the Red Deer Airport. Visitors can explore its collections, learn about the restoration of aircraft for display or flight, and attend events hosted by the Society or attended by its members. The organization also shares historical information, including the story of Penhold Base from its formation in 1939 to its closure in 1995.
