Penn's Woods Stable

Penn’s Woods Stable is a hunter-jumper riding and training facility in Anderson, South Carolina, established in 1978. Located about 30 minutes from Clemson University and halfway between Charlotte and Atlanta, the stable welcomes riders from beginners to experienced competitors. Owner-trainer Bill Payne brings nearly 60 years of riding experience and offers patient, individualized instruction shaped by classical dressage principles and natural horsemanship.

Services include private and group riding lessons, horse training, show preparation, full-care boarding, clinics, and standalone trailer-loading lessons. Instruction is available on the farm, and Bill also travels to teach clinics, including stadium and cross-country work. Riders and horses from Penn’s Woods have earned honors at BRHJA, Progressive Show Jumping, and USEF-recognized shows.

Full-care boarding includes daily personal attention, stalls, a tack room, an outdoor arena with jumps, and fenced paddocks and pastures. The stable also lists horses for sale or lease when available and currently advertises a Springhill horse trailer for sale. Penn’s Woods emphasizes consistent care, sound horsemanship, and helping each horse-and-rider partnership progress.
