Penrith Pumas WRC

Penrith Pumas is a wheelchair rugby club based in Penrith, serving Carlisle and communities across Cumbria. Founded in 2020 to address the lack of accessible sporting opportunities, the club welcomes people aged 14 and over, including those with disabilities or long-term health conditions. It is the only wheelchair rugby club within 150 miles and provides an inclusive community for players ranging from juniors to adults.

The Pumas offer weekly training every Tuesday at Penrith Leisure Centre, with sessions featuring both Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby, for people with impairments affecting both arms and legs, and Wheelchair Rugby Fives, which is open to a wider range of physical impairments. Through sport, participants can develop strength, skills and strategy while building confidence, friendships and a sense of belonging. The club also delivers community workshops and supports competitive progression. Its achievements include league promotion, national recognition and players representing Great Britain internationally. Now a charitable incorporated organisation, Penrith Pumas brings together players, volunteers, families and partners to promote inclusion, wellbeing and opportunity through wheelchair rugby.
