Penrose is a software platform for creating diagrams by writing mathematical notation in plain text. It is designed to help people turn technical ideas into clear, polished visuals without relying on complex drawing tools. The project’s stated goal is to make high-quality diagram creation accessible to non-experts and to support deeper insight into challenging concepts. By offering a notation-based approach, Penrose aims to make visual intuition easier to create and share across a wide range of technical subjects.

The Penrose website provides an editor for working with diagrams, along with examples and a tutorial to help users get started. Its learning resources include documentation and a blog, while the site also invites visitors to contribute to the project and learn about the team. Penrose describes its broader ambition as democratizing the creation of visual explanations. The platform is released under the MIT License, and its copyright is attributed to Penrose contributors.
