Penumbra

Penumbra is a private, cross-chain proof-of-stake network and decentralized exchange designed for the Cosmos ecosystem and beyond. It brings privacy to IBC, enabling users to shield assets from connected chains by transferring them into Penumbra’s interchain shielded pool. Within the network, people can send and receive assets, stake, swap, and provide liquidity without publicly revealing their personal information or trading strategies.

Penumbra uses end-to-end encryption, with ultralight nodes generating zero-knowledge proofs locally on users’ devices. Information can be decrypted only by users and recipients they choose, and users may selectively disclose details for accounting or compliance. Its native DEX supports private trading and custom liquidity positions, while users can also run infrastructure such as validators, RPC services, or frontends.

The Penumbra ecosystem includes Prax, a browser wallet; Veil, a DEX explorer and trading interface; Noctis, a block explorer; and tools for chain metrics and command-line access. Penumbra also provides guides, governance resources, community forums, and support to help users explore the protocol.
