The Pénzmúzeum, or Money Museum, is the Hungarian National Bank’s interactive center for financial education and the history of money. Developed by MNB-EduLab Kompetencia Központ Nonprofit Kft., it offers visitors an engaging experience that goes beyond traditional displays of historic currency. Its permanent exhibition features more than 6,000 coins and banknotes, brought to life through interactive games, visual presentations, objects, artworks and digital platforms.
Visitors can explore the journey and role of money, learn about currencies around the world, lift a real gold bar, create a personalized banknote and chat with the museum’s robot guide, Mani. Audio guides provide additional insights at each visitor’s own pace. The museum also presents temporary exhibitions and hosts events, guided tours, creative workshops, competitions and educational programs for schools and the wider community.
