About of Pequannock History
The Pequannock Township Historical Society is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, interpreting, and promoting the history and diverse heritage of Pequannock Township, New Jersey. It works to maintain the Martin Berry House, a historic 1720 building, as a site for current and future generations. With the Township, the Society helped secure funding for the house’s purchase and is progressing through a rehabilitation plan intended to make it safe for public access and support its future use as a community learning center and living-history museum.
The Society shares local history through its website, social media, meetings, open houses, tours, and special events. Visitors can explore the Martin Berry House during its regular monthly opening, with guided or self-guided opportunities to see the property. The organization also aims to showcase the history of Pequannock and Pompton Plains. Meetings are held monthly, except during summer, and all are welcome. Memberships begin at $25 per year; donations and volunteers help support the Society’s preservation work.
