PERSITOX

PERSITOX is the organiser behind the International Symposium on Persistent Toxic Substances (PTS), a global conference series focused on improving scientific understanding of chemicals that persist in the environment, accumulate in living organisms, and pose long-term risks to ecosystems and human health. Founded by the International Joint Research Center for Persistent Toxic Substances (IJRC-PTS), the series brings together researchers, policymakers, industry stakeholders, early-career scientists, and decision-makers.

Its programme explores Arctic pollution and the long-range transport, distribution, and fate of persistent toxic substances, alongside their toxicological and ecological effects, risk assessment, and management. Sessions also address emerging connections between the Atlantic and Pacific Arctic. Participants can engage with plenary speakers, thematic sessions, poster presentations, and networking opportunities.

The 2026 symposium is scheduled for 2–4 November in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, at Funken Lodge. The Arctic setting offers a distinctive context for discussing contaminants and fragile polar ecosystems. PERSITOX provides event information, registration and abstract submission, student support, exhibition opportunities, and guidance for visitors.
