Petra Dünges

Petra Dünges is a literary translator and specialist in Arabic children’s and young adult literature. Her work introduces Arabic writing to German-speaking readers through translations, criticism, research, and cultural programming. She translates Arabic children’s and youth books into German, including illustrated books, and reviews translated works with attention to their Arabic originals.

Her services also include editorial assessments for publishers, connecting Arabic literature with German-language publishers, writing scholarly and journalistic articles, giving talks, and developing exhibitions. Dünges presents readings of her translations in kindergartens, schools, and libraries, and also translates illustrated literature for adults, including comics and graphic novels. Her translations have appeared in bilingual Arabic-German editions with publishers such as Edition Orient, and her work includes books recognized in literary recommendations, such as The Writer and the Cat.

She has also translated children’s poems for a multilingual calendar and contributed to projects involving multilingual audiobooks and picture-book materials. Alongside her literary practice, Dünges researches Arabic children’s literature and is pursuing doctoral studies in formal semantics
