The Nicholas C. Petris Center on Health Care Markets and Consumer Welfare is a health economics research center dedicated to conducting empirical research on vital health policy topics. Our mission is to provide the necessary data and research to guide public policy in today’s complex healthcare industry.
We focus on ensuring consumer protection, affordability, and access to healthcare, particularly for low and middle-income individuals. Our extensive research covers market concentration, competition, and healthcare market regulation, along with topical issues in mental health, the health workforce, integrated care, and universal healthcare initiatives, specifically in California. The research center was established in 1999 with a generous endowment from the Office of the Attorney General for California and was named after the late California State Senator Nicholas Petris, a staunch advocate for affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare.
Our work is dedicated to continuing his legacy and protecting the rights and well-being of California consumers
