About The DataJam
Pgh Dataworks is a nonprofit organization founded by software scientists and faculty members from renowned universities to encourage high school students to explore the field of big data science. With the rapid growth of data in various industries, there is a pressing need for analytic scholars to interpret and analyze large datasets. Pgh Dataworks aims to address this shortage by running the DataJam, an academic competition for high school students and afterschool programs.
In teams, students work on formulating research questions, finding publicly available datasets, analyzing the data, creating visualizations, and presenting their findings to a panel of judges. Through this competition, students develop skills in data analysis, the scientific method, and scientific presentations. Started in the 2013-2014 school year, the DataJam has expanded to include teams from across the country.
Participating schools and programs have the opportunity to join the online Slack workspace, receive mentorship, and showcase their projects at a finale event. Join Pgh Dataworks in building a pipeline of young talents passionate about making an impact in the world of big data science!
