About Pharma Marine AS
Pharma Marine AS is a renowned brand that specializes in the production of innovative and convenient products derived from sustainable sources. Located in Ålesund, Norway, a picturesque fishing town on the west coast where fjords meet mountains, Pharma Marine draws on the rich maritime heritage of the Gjendemsjø family. It all started in 1949 when Lauritz Gjendemsjø decided to become a fisherman instead of taking over the family farm.
With a passion for fishing, he eventually built the first fishing boat with thrusters, setting the stage for future innovation. In the late 60s, Lauritz and his companions established a fish-processing factory to increase the value of their catch. As the business grew, Lauritz and his son Leif Kjetil, inspired by sustainability, began producing fish protein and fish oil from the trimmings, pioneering the use of two-piece hard gelatin capsules and omega-3 concentrates.
Leif Kjetil, driven by his father's vision, founded Pharma Marine AS, aiming to revolutionize the Omega-3 industry with a focus on eco-friendly production, R&D, sustainable raw materials, and novel marine ingredients. Today, Pharma Marine continues this legacy, crafting premium quality products that prioritize the planet, health, and future generations
