PhD Swim School is a local, women-owned swim school serving families in Durham, North Carolina, since 2016. It teaches infants and children to develop water safety, independent swimming skills, and confidence through a progression of age- and ability-appropriate lessons. The school’s survival program is a one-on-one course for new students, teaching children to float, breathe, and swim toward safety. Graduates can continue with maintenance classes to reinforce skills and develop sound swimming technique.
Programs span early swim fundamentals through competitive training. Offerings include Kicks & Tricks, FUNdations, Beginning Stroke, Advanced Stroke, and Competitive Stroke, with entry based on demonstrated skills and readiness. Lessons are available in 15- and 30-minute formats, and sessions are structured over seven weeks; survival classes meet three times weekly. PhD Swim School also provides a swim assessment to help families identify an appropriate class, along with online registration, a parent portal, and resources for students and caregivers. Its instructors are extensively trained, and the school emphasizes community service and sustainable business practices.
