Phoenix Archaeological Project | Marmaris is a new generation research project that began in 2021, focusing on archaeological surface surveys and conducted in a multinational and multidisciplinary manner. This project aims to document the tangible and intangible cultural heritage in the southwest of the Bozburun Peninsula, contribute to the preservation of cultural assets, and present the obtained data to the scientific community. Located in the Taşlıca and Söğüt villages of Marmaris, Muğla, the project involves sustainable fieldwork and social responsibility programs to create a sustainable future for the region.

The ancient city of Phoenix and its surroundings serve as the main focus of this project, with a central area covering approximately 2. 5 hectares and featuring an Acropolis and a sacred area dedicated to Apollo. The project applies systematic intensive surface survey methods and excavation practices, integrating various disciplines such as geophysics, architecture, ecology, anthropology, sociology, oral history, philosophy, cultural heritage, and site management.

The collected field data is simultaneously recorded and processed in a web-based digital database. Phoenix Archaeological Project offers a wide range of programs, including geophysical surveys, rural architectural documentation and conservation, cultural heritage studies, oral history research, geoarchaeology, archaeoseismology, archaeobotanical studies, coastal surface surveys, mapping and architectural documentation, contemporary art initiatives, epigraphy, ecological heritage education, community archaeology, and gastronomy studies.
