Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) is a technical school focused on preparing students for careers in aviation maintenance and electronics. Founded in 1929, PIA provides hands-on training at its main campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and branch campuses in Hagerstown, Maryland; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Youngstown, Ohio. Forbes ranked the school among the top two-year trade schools in 2018.
PIA offers two career-oriented programs. Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) is available as a 20-month Associate of Specialized Technology degree in Pittsburgh or a 16-month diploma or certificate at the branch campuses. The program prepares students to take the FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification exams. Aviation Electronics Technology (AET), offered at the Pittsburgh campus, is a program of less than two years leading to an Associate of Specialized Technology degree and preparing students for the NCATT Aircraft Electronics Technician certification.
The school also supports students through admissions guidance, financial aid and scholarships, campus tours, career services, and career-readiness resources. Graduates pursue opportunities in aviation maintenance, electronics, and related fields.
