Pic-Land

Makino Pickland is an agricultural park and visitor complex in Takashima, western Shiga Prefecture, beside the scenic Metasequoia tree-lined avenue near Lake Biwa. Combining seasonal countryside experiences with local food and shopping, it offers visitors several ways to enjoy the region’s landscapes and produce.

The park’s orchard hosts seasonal fruit and crop-picking activities, including chestnut gathering, grape, blueberry and cherry picking, and sweet potato digging. Families, school groups and community gatherings are welcome, though opening periods and hours may change with weather and growing conditions.

Dining options include Namiki Café Metasequoia, which serves meals and sweets featuring local ingredients and fruit, with views of the avenue, as well as the Namiki Shokudo Tsubame restaurant, known for Takashima specialties and traditional Omi cuisine. Visitors can also find gelato and other treats.

The agricultural produce shop sells crops grown by local farmers, including fruit, while the souvenir shop offers products made with Takashima’s Adoberry and Takashima chirimen textiles. The complex also features grounds for golf and other attractions.
