About SynCardia Total Artificial Heart
Picard Medical, Inc. is a publicly traded medical technology company and the parent of SynCardia Systems, LLC, a developer, manufacturer, and commercializer of total artificial heart technology. SynCardia’s principal product is the SynCardia Total Artificial Heart (STAH), described as the only commercially available total artificial heart approved by both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Health Canada. It is a treatment option for transplant-eligible patients at risk of imminent death from biventricular failure.
The STAH is available in 70 cc and 50 cc sizes and is supported by hospital-based and portable home driver systems. These systems are intended to help patients regain mobility and quality of life while they await a donor heart. SynCardia reports more than 2,100 implants across 27 countries and over three decades of clinical use. The company is also developing the Emperor System, a fully implantable artificial heart designed to eliminate external drivers. Founded in 2001, SynCardia carries forward the legacy of CardioWest and the Jarvik-7 design.
