PICS Global is a social enterprise focused on helping smallholder family farmers improve food security, protect harvests and increase incomes. Its work began with the development of the PICS Bag in 1987 by Purdue University researchers, with USAID funding. Today, the organization works through a growing network of licensed manufacturers, distributors, retailers and partners to make its solutions accessible in farming communities.
Its flagship product, the PICS Bag, is a durable, reusable, triple-layer hermetic storage bag designed to preserve crops safely without insecticides. By limiting post-harvest losses and reducing the need for pesticides, the bags help farmers keep grain in good condition and choose when to sell, including when market prices may be more favourable. The technology is designed for long-term storage and is effective with most crops.
PICS Global also supports the supply chains and collaborations needed to reach farmers, working with social-sector organizations, government entities, donors and impact investors.
