Pierluigi Giacobazzi

Pierluigi Giacobazzi is a science communicator, astrophotographer and environmental guide whose work connects astronomy, photography and nature education. His mission is to share knowledge of astronomy and environmental science through accessible, hands-on experiences. In 2010, he founded the J.W. Draper Cultural Association to promote interest in photographing the night sky. He later served as president of the Centre for Astronomy Education and director of Modena’s Francesco Martino Civic Planetarium. In 2020, he established Casa delle Stelle, an environmental education project focused on observing and photographing the sky in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines National Park.

Giacobazzi offers educational modules and experiences for schools, guided excursions and educational trips, photography courses and workshops, public telescope-viewing evenings, lectures and themed scientific-photographic expeditions. His activities also include educational videos and an astronomical calendar. His astrophotography has taken him to dark-sky locations including the Atacama Desert, Easter Island, Hawaii and La Palma. His images have received NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day and USRA Earth Science Picture of the Day recognition, and have been published or exhibited internationally.
