Pierre Margara Sculpteur

Pierre Margara is a sculptor based in Megève, France, whose artistic practice spans more than five decades. Born in Aix-les-Bains in 1946, he discovered sculpture during an apprenticeship with master sculptor Rosso and held his first exhibition in 1966. He settled in Megève in 1970, and his work has since attracted international recognition and collectors from around the world.

Margara’s sculptures explore the beauty, purity and serenity he finds within materials. His approach emphasizes simplified forms, flowing curves and the removal of unnecessary elements, inviting viewers to respond with their own imagination and emotions. He works primarily through direct carving, shaping original pieces in walnut and limewood without using models. His wider body of work also includes marble and bronze sculptures.

The artist presents his work through exhibitions and retrospectives, including “L’Intuition des cimes” at Megève’s Espace d’Arts moderne et contemporain Edith Allard. This exhibition brings together sculptures, preparatory drawings and studies, offering visitors insight into his creative process and the materials behind his art.
