About Pif Magazine
Pif Magazine was an online literary publication dedicated to sharing creative writing and conversation with readers. Founded by publisher Richard Luck, it began as a public bulletin board system before its first issue moved online in 1995. Over 28 years and 297 issues, Pif published more than 2,500 pieces, including poetry, fiction, and author interviews. Its work brought together writers, readers, artists, and other contributors, building a distinctive creative community during the early years of online publishing.
The magazine was produced through a largely hands-on approach: its early pages were coded in HTML by hand, reflecting the limited tools available at the time. Pif also provided submission guidelines and maintained an archive of past issues, allowing readers to explore its extensive back catalogue by month. In June 2022, Luck announced that Pif Magazine had closed, ending its publishing operations after nearly three decades. Although the magazine no longer releases new issues, steps were taken to keep its archives online and readable for at least five years, preserving access to its published work.
