Pike Animal Welfare Shelter

Pike Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS), also known as Petersburg Animal Welfare Shelter, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in Petersburg, Indiana. Serving Pike County for more than 30 years, PAWS provides a safe haven for animals in need and operates as a no-kill shelter, working to find loving homes for the animals in its care. The shelter helps prospective adopters explore available animals and provides adoption information and fees to support the process.

PAWS also works to promote the welfare of local animals. When residents encounter a stray, the shelter encourages them to try to locate the animal’s owner first. People concerned about possible abuse can contact PAWS, which will assess the animal’s welfare and determine whether further assistance or law enforcement involvement is needed. Community members can support the organization through donations, fundraising events, and volunteering, with opportunities to join its volunteer committee or board. Located at 4224 North Meridian Road, the shelter welcomes visitors Tuesday through Saturday and offers appointments by phone.
