The Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (PIMS) is an institute for advanced study of the intellectual and material cultures of the Middle Ages, based in Toronto and connected to the University of Toronto’s community of medievalists. It maintains a close collaborative relationship with the Centre for Medieval Studies. PIMS supports scholarship through fellowships, visiting appointments, postdoctoral opportunities, and academic programmes, including a Diploma Programme in Manuscript Studies and a Licentiate in Mediaeval Studies.
Its research projects encompass medieval texts, manuscripts, liturgy, and intellectual history. The Institute also publishes scholarly books and the journal Mediaeval Studies, and offers services for authors, readers, and educators, including publication ordering and classroom books. Its library provides access to collections supporting research in medieval studies, with information available on access, hours, staff, and recent acquisitions.
PIMS further fosters scholarly exchange through seminars, lectures, and public events, and welcomes support from the Friends of the Library, donors, and benefactors
